COVID-19 Protected
COVID-19 Prevention Protocol
Mission Villa is happy to report that our precious senior family has survived the pandemic. There has not been one case of Coronavirus. 94% of our home; residents and staff, are vaccinated. We continue to stay informed and adjust to safeguard our residents.
Our residents’ safety is and always will be our number one priority.
Make memories! Enjoy your visit on our sunny patio or inside our comfy home.
welcoming new residents
We are happy to welcome new residents to join our family! We understand that as our loved ones get older, they will need more assistance. We also understand that budgets and finances don’t necessarily follow suit. Our rates are all-inclusive and not subject to increases due to changes in your loved ones level of care.
Please call Lisa at (805)898-2709 to learn more about our admission process, rates, and optional services.
Visitation and our day-to-day
July 2021 Update: Well, we made it! We seem to be largely on the other side of this pandemic and Mission Villa is relieved that we have “0” Coronavirus casualties or cases to report. With Santa Barbara in the less restrictive ‘Yellow Tier’ Mission Villa residents are able to enjoy newly reinstated freedoms and begin getting back to ‘normal’. We are grateful for our staff and families’ consideration, mindfulness, and abundance of caution during these trying times. Visitation, both indoor and outdoor, is open. We are still practicing prevention protocols, per state orders. A ‘clean entrance’ is provided where our guests and visitors can take their temperatures, wash, and sanitize in preparation for their visit. Masks are required. We ask anyone who is feeling unhealthy in any way to postpone or reschedule their visit.
Mission Villa is taking advantage of the reduced restrictions! You will find us safely ‘out and about’ town; walks around the neighborhood, visits to Alice Keck Park, beach strolls, even waterfront harbor cruises!
August 2020 Update: We are delighted to announce that the suspension of certain outside providers like home health, hospice and our beloved family is currently lifted. We are offering ‘patio visits’. A mask and distancing is required. Families can enjoy refreshments and fellowship on the patio, welcoming, with it’s umbrellas, sea breezes, and dotted with geraniums and St. Paul II white roses. We are able to host these visits, one family at a time, so please call and get your visits on the calendar. We have been missing our family visits and look forward to seeing you all again.
We have taken advantage of the quietude of the quarantine! We have had a lot more ‘immediate family’ intimate moments. We have gotten to know each other a little bit better. The well-being quotient of the residents, as well as the care team, spiked. In many respects, there was a new sense of calm and contentedness that blanketed our home. Frankly, it was rejuvenating. We are going through this together and bonding deeper because of it.
Disease prevention training
On March 15th, Mission Villa staff underwent a 3-hour intensive training session on proper donning of Personal Protective Equipment (there is a specific order, on and off!), environmental sanitation and disinfection and COVID-19 care protocol. We felt much better prepared having that training under our belts early enough to practice and perfect.
Masks & Gloves
Mission Villa stocked up on PPE! Our new mask and glove protocol provides maximum safety for residents and staff. 3-Ply procedure masks are worn at all times while in the residence. N95 masks are worn when working directly with a resident; transfers, meal assist, brushing teeth or other interactions that require a distance less than 6 feet. Staff ‘mask breaks’ are built in to the schedule, allowing care staff to opportunity to step onto the patio for a few moments and get some fresh air. Gloves are worn throughout the day and replaced between resident interactions.
Staying Connected
We are technology-enabled and ready to visit! FaceTime, Google Duo and even the good old fashioned landline! In addition to private visitation we have also set up a private and hidden (invitation only) Facebook Group called Mission Villa Family. On Mission Villa's private family page, families can access 'live' glimpses into their loved one’s day, and share their day with us!
Friday Pop In Parties happens every Friday through the end of May, using Zoom. Families join us for fun and togetherness. Anything could happen!
Making Magic
There are certainly things we are not able to do now, since COVID-19 disrupted our lives. What we are focusing on, however, are the things that we CAN do now that life has changed. Our days are slower. We take even more time with our residents now that protocol requires it and the slowing of traffic makes room for it. That means a lot more one-on-one than before. We have all found that our relationships with each other -- staff and residents -- have deepened through this crisis. Our connection with one another is more meaningful and our interactions, richer. We take longer walks, discussions are unhurried and our personal moments as a family are even more connected and vibrant. It's kind of amazing.
TeleHealth
Hooray for technology! Thanks to tools like FaceTime and Google Duo, we can connect our residents with their primary physician immediately. Most often, the TeleHealth solution takes care of the need. We can use Zoom if the family would like to join. In the instance where in-person evaluation is necessary, the primary physician will come on site. If the situation is deemed an emergency, Emergency Services are still an option.
Humidity
Viruses Hate Humidity. Vaporizers are run in rooms with coughing. Not only is this good for the resident’s lung health, it protects the others by ‘wetting’ any airborne viruses and dropping it to the floor. Humidifiers are running constantly throughout our home for the same reason.
‘Clean Room’ Entrance
We rerouted traffic to enter through our Mission Street entrance where we created a 'clean room'. This is a separate room with fresh, sanitized smocks, a wash basin with soap and paper towels, nitrile exam gloves and a washing machine where staff deposits their work smock at the end of their shift. Upon arrival, staff will put on a sanitized smock (left and laundered daily at Mission Villa), put on shoes that they have been disinfected and left at Mission Villa, wash their hands, put on gloves and a mask, and are assessed by the Care Manager. Temperature is read and they are evaluated for signs of un-wellness.
Isolation Care
Each room has been designed for isolated care. Staffing has been scheduled to meet this need. Most of our residents are comfortable with this accommodation. For the one or two that require an environment conducive to meandering, they will have the open space to do that. Each room is equipped with either a TV or radio and an assortment of activities. Walks are scheduled for each resident in order to get the blood pumping and musculoskeletal engaged! The 12 rooms are divided among the three caregivers. One caregiver for a block of 4 rooms.
Zoom calls are just one way we connect families.
